About
Alex Gingell
Alex grew up in a Cambridge farming family with a strong equestrian background. His passion for eventing developed during a decade in the Newmarket & Thurlow Pony Club. While competing on his horse, Countryman, he realized the importance of dressage, often missing top placements despite double clears. Determined to improve, Alex focused on dressage and achieved three consecutive scores of 22 at the open intermediate level, winning against riders like Owen Moore and Andrew Nicholson. This breakthrough earned him a spot on the Junior team in 1989.
After a fall in 1990 ended his competitive riding career, Alex shifted focus. He earned a BA in Equine Studies and advanced as a dressage judge, becoming a List 4 judge. Following a 15-year break for family and business, Alex reignited his passion through FEI ground jurying, eventually becoming a Level 1 FEI Judge.
In November 2023, Alex was promoted to List 3a BD, qualifying him to judge all levels of eventing and advanced/medium in British Dressage. He is now working towards List 2 for 2024, with potential for FEI Level 2 by year-end. RingCraft, his specialty, is now his full-time focus, marking an exciting new chapter in his career.
